2011 NATIONAL GUIDELINES 2011 National Guidelines
REGISTRATION DEADLINE: All registration for National Finals must reach DEA office on or before MAY 16, 2011. All studios are encouraged to register online at www.deadance.com . Competition & Workshop forms must be inclusive at the time of submission. Registration is not confirmed without valid payment. Late entries will not be accepted. No TBA accepted. DEA is not responsible for accuracy of age & spelling errors in the program.
LATE FEE: A complete registration [registration (comp & wksp) & payment] received on May 17th or after is rendered late & subject to a late fee charge of $50.00.
FORMS OF PAYMENT: Payment in Full must accompany ALL registrations at the time of submission using the online Payment Center. We accept Visa, MC, Discover & American Express in U.S. Funds. All other arrangements must be approved by DEA in advance.
REFUND POLICY: ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
CONFIRMATIONS: Studios should keep copies of all registration paperwork for reference. DEA will post final program line ups online. It is the responsibility of each studio to review its billing statements for accuracy.
VIDEO PRELIMINARY: In 2011, no videos will be accepted for Prequalification of Nationals. Any routine requiring qualification must register by May 16th (See On-site Preliminary).
- ON-SITE PRELIMINARY: At New York & Las Vegas, a Preliminary Competition will be held for those who did not pre-qualify at a 2010-11 Regional event. All other rules apply.
PRELIMINARY FEES: The 2011 National Fee schedule for Finals is also applicable to all Preliminary entries.
For example, a Solo Non-Member fee is $90.00. The Preliminary fee is also $90.00.
PLATINUM COMPETITION: Advance Registration due by May 16, 2011 for Regional Qualifiers. Open to all Platinum winners exclusively who either qualified at a Regional or during National Finals. Participation is voluntary. A Platinum Competition schedule will be posted on-site at the National City of participation.
Entry Limits:
3 Solos - 3 Duets - 3 Trios per studio with No limit for Groups, Lines or Productions.
NATIONAL ELIGIBILITY: Scores of Silver, Gold or Platinum at the Regional level are eligible to participate at Nationals. Dancers may compete in more than one city, but a "winning" routine may not compete again once qualified. No student may compete against oneself within a division.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: In 2011, Teachers (Member or Non-Member) are not required to register for National workshop. In order to participate in Nationals, students are required to register for workshop. Workshop attendance is accepted exclusive of competition. Independents are welcome.
- Owner/Teacher(s) or Salaried Employees: All entries must be submitted as Semi-Professional. Said persons are not eligible for cash awards or High Score of the Day. Winners will be awarded a trophy.
- Advanced Students (16-22): Participating in Teachers' classes disqualifies said students for any cash prizes, scholarships or Title competition.
- Class Demonstrators at Studio: These students are not considered to be 'Professional' and may compete in any category.
- Novice Students: Students taking class 3 hours or less a week are eligible to enter as a novice and will be awarded a medal, but no cash awards. A novice may only participate in a routine categorized as novice with novice participants.

AGE: The average age of all students in a routine; drop the decimal. The age of student(s) at Regional will remain the same at National. Group division entries cannot compete in more than one age division.

WORKSHOP DIVISIONS: Teachers are permitted to roam student rooms. Teachers will not be permitted in the Small Fry classroom at anytime. Each paid workshop participant will receive one (1) banquet ticket included in fee. Small Fry students & Workshop Scholarship recipients excluded. These individuals may purchase banquets tickets at their discretion.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS: A copy of the certificate must be submitted in addition to the registration via e-mail, fax or postal mail. All scholarships which are valid for the 2010-2011 season are non-transferable to other events or students and may not be exchanged for cash value. Duplicates will not be re-issued (See details on Scholarship).
TEACHER DISCOUNTS: Fees must be paid in full on or before May 16, 2011 to receive applicable discounts otherwise void. Discounts not applicable to Small Fry students and/or Workshop Scholarship students. Maximum 3 Free Teachers earned per studio.
Las Vegas:
- Register 25 workshop students INT-SR; receive 1 free Teacher
- Register 40 workshop students INT-SR; receive 2 free Teachers
- Register 55 workshop students INT-SR; receive 3 free Teachers
WORKSHOP WRISTBANDS: All participants must wear designated bracelet for the duration of workshop classes. No entry will be permitted to anyone without the necessary bracelet for the classroom. Lost wristbands will be replaced at the full tuition rate.
SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS: All scholarships are valid for the 2010 - 2011 season, are non-transferable to other events or students and may not be exchanged for cash value. A copy of the certificate MUST be included with registration form. Duplicates will not be re-issued.

MUSIC: One song per CD. Back ups must also be a CD, clearly labeled and of professional quality. Entries are timed from 1st step onstage to finish pose. Teachers must use judgment when selecting music and its lyrical content. Vulgar, derogatory or sexually suggestive words and inappropriate dance moves are cause for disqualification.
TIME & LINE UP: Students with make up or costume changes that require additional time to prepare between performances must note this change on the entry form. Once the line up has been issued NO CHANGES WILL BE ALLOWED.
PROPS: All props must be set on stage by the studio within (45) seconds maximum or a 3-point deduction will be applied. Please have clean up after prop removal. DEA staff is not responsible for set-up or breakdown.
SCORING: The DEA Standard of Achievement of composite scores is an average of the individual Judges scores resulting in the following award categories:
PLATINUM 294 - 300 | GOLD 282 - 293 | SILVER 264 - 281 | BRONZE 246 - 263
HONORABLE MENTION 210 - 245
AWARDS:
Solos, Duets and Trios: Each age division will be awarded medals. Awards for TOP 3 Solos, Duets and Trios will be announced and awarded cash prizes at Banquet. There must be 6 entries in a category to be awarded 3 places for cash awards.
Groups & Lines: Each age division will be announced & awarded (1) medal for the routine and ribbons to all participants. The TOP 3 Groups & Lines will be announced and awarded cash prizes at Banquet. There must be 6 entries in a category to be awarded 3 places for cash awards.
Productions: Each age division will be announced & awarded (1) medal for the routine and ribbons to all participants. The TOP 3 in '12 & Under' and '13 & Over' will be announced and awarded a trophy plus cash prizes at banquet. There must be 6 entries in a category to be awarded 3 places for cash awards.
*****In New York: Awards will take place at the conclusion of Nationals on July 2, 2011.
FLASH PHOTOS OR VIDEO: Taping of National competition is strictly prohibited and will result in disqualification. Each studio will receive a DVD from DRC containing video footage of entries and judges' comments. Teachers only will be permitted to video during workshop.
