MEMBERSHIP                                                                                                                                                              
REQUIREMENTS

  • Membership shall be limited to those persons presently or previously engaged in the teaching of Performing and Stage Arts, and in one or more of the branches of dance in all its forms.

  • Each prospective member must be twenty (20) years of age or over, with a minimum of four (4) years of experience teaching one or more dance subjects, and having passed two (2) examinations or more from the five choices listed on Membership Application.

  • An application for membership must be made with the DEA office. After verification of all information in the application, the application will be forwarded to the Examination Committee.

  • We accept only ‘Qualified Teachers’ for membership.  Our main purpose thereafter is to help them perfect their methods of teaching through seminars, workshops and incentive oriented competitions to become the consummate professionals in their chosen profession of dance.  Entrance examinations are given at both our Regional Workshops & National Conventions and are by appointment only.  Applicants should request an appointment by contacting us at the DEA office for either a Regional Workshop or National Convention date at least two (2) weeks in advance of said event.    
                                                                                         
    Membership examinations can be taken in the following subjects: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Acro/Tumb, Modern, Anatomy/Music.  Each exam tests the written, oral, and demonstration skills of the prospective applicant.  All individuals must be dressed in proper dance attire & shoes for the examinations applied.  Examinations are based on books available through the DEA office and the Membership Application.      
                                                                                                       
    Once an applicant's hard copy application has been received by the director of Membership, and the applicant has fulfilled the necessary requirements of passing the examinations of choice with a grade of 75% or more, the prospective member will be issued an Annual Dues statement.  Upon the applicant’s acceptance of the offer of membership induction, a membership packet will be issued.

  • In addition, any individual who has successfully completed Levels I and II of the DEA Teacher Training & Certification program and is 20 years of age, qualifies for membership; as these exams satisfy the Membership examinations as noted above.

  • Any Member of Dance Educators of America who objects to an applicant, must file such objection in writing or make it in person. All objections or grievances shall be referred to the Grievance Committee for consideration.
  •
