Regional Qualification
REQUIREMENTS
Only students of a DEA Member Teacher are eligible to participate in the National Title Competition. The DEA National Title Competition will be
open exclusively to solo's, at all age levels of competition: Small Fry, Junior, Pre-teen, Teen and Senior. Any DEA Member Teacher's student who enters a solo at a Regional Competition and scores in the Gold, Platinum or Titanium Range (282 to 300 points) will automatically become eligible to participate in one of the National Title Competition Finals.
HIGHEST SCORING
A soloist may enter as many solo routines as desired at a Regional event ($85.00 solo fee per entry). Should a competition participant enter more Than one (1) solo at a Regional event (for example: Tap solo, Lyrical solo and Ballet solo) only the highest scoring of the solos may be entered into the National Title Competition Finals.
ANNOUNCEMENT/CERTIFICATE
At a Regional no places will be awarded for Titles. Only an announcement of the solos, which score a Gold, Platinum or Titanium award, will be made. Each solo will be awarded a certificate and given a National Title entry form to attend the city of their choice.
National Qualification
DEADLINE
The deadline for National Title Competition is May 18, 2012. There are no exceptions to this rule.
REQUIREMENTS
Each Soloist who scores Gold, Platinum, or Titanium at a Regional and wishes to compete in Title Competitions must submit an Official
Entry Form (given at the attended Regional event) along with a 5x7 B&W headshot, preferably emailed to dea@deadance.com, in addition to the National Title fee.
CHAPERONE
The DEA Member Teacher of each entrant is not required to register for National Workshop in 2012. However, each National Title contestant
must be represented by a designated chaperone.
TITLE FEE
Title participants must pay a Title fee of $85.00 plus the Workshop fee. All title participants, including Small Fry, are required to participate in
pageant rehearsal and perform at banquet.
SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS
Scholarship winners of workshops are not entitled to banquet ticket or lunch vouchers.
PROFICIENCY CLASSES
Participants (except Small Fry) in each of the National Final cities will participate in Proficiency Classes one hour in length for Ballet, Tap, Jazz &
Acrobatic. Students will be grouped into two age groups; (Junior/Pre-Teen) and (Teen/Senior). Each proficiency class is worth 10 points. The two highest scores from the four previous mentioned Proficiency Classes, will be counted along with their performance score. The total score a participants can receive from the three judges is 360 points.
REGION REPRESENTATION
DEA is in agreement that each national title winner represents the entire respective region.
ORIENTATION
On the second day of nationals at 7:30 am, there will be an orientation of all title participants, explaining proficiency classes, dance apparel,
workshop classes, numbers to be worn, and to be informed that they will be observed in every dance class as well as judged on their behavior and etiquette.
DRESS CODE
Title participants will wear the following for Workshop & Audition class:
- Ladies Black Leotard, Tan Tights & Shoes
- Men Black Jazz Pants or Tights, Black Shoes & White T-shirt
TITLE REHEARSAL
Title participants (including Small Fry) will make themselves available for three (3) individual two-hour rehearsals to learn an Opening Production number to be performed at the opening of the National Banquet and Award Ceremony in the city of participation.
DEA'S ROYAL COURT
Selection of the 2011-2012 Overall Winners for DEA's Royal Court will be determined by a panel of Judges who will adjudicate, all National Miss & Mr. in each age level, from each National city.
WINNER REQUIREMENT
Participants that win a National Title in the Final adjudication for DEA's Royal Court agree to remain a student of their Member Teacher for 1 year or forfeit all awards and prizes. A participant that wins a National Title may not compete in the same age category the following competition year.
